Part one of a three part illustration series.  The Mocking Bird Song is an Appalachian folk song, but also known in the United States as “Hush Little Baby”.  This song is thought to be an American song by many, as Mockingbirds are from the American continent, but the original author and date are either vague or unknown.  There are many version of The Mocking Bird Song floating around, below is one with the depiction of a mother singing the song to child.  In the book that I am illustrating, the song depicts a father “Papa” singing to child. This is from the German Folk song “The Sandman” by Arr. Johannes Brahms. I chose a koala for the Sandman character, simply because I was thinking about Australia that day I believe…I think it works.
